What to expect at your LASIK consultation?
The main goals of your free consultation prior to your LASIK procedure are to determine if you’re a candidate and to provide information about what you can expect before, during and after the surgery.
4 steps to a successful evaluation:
To ensure your consultation is successful, there are a few steps you should follow:
- If you wear contact lenses, you must stop wearing them before your consultation, because they can change the curvature of your corneas and affect your examination. The length of time will vary depending on the type of lenses you wear, so be sure to check with the clinic.
- Make a point of telling your doctor about any past or current eye conditions and about any medications you’re currently taking. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medication.
- Bring a pair of sunglasses, just in case your pupils are dilated during the examination. Pupil dilation often results in sensitivity to light, so sunglasses may come in handy.
- If you have children, arrange for child care during your consultation (approx. 1.5 hrs).
It is important to follow any pre-consultation instructions you receive very closely. The results of your examination will provide the information we need to recommend a specific treatment, so accuracy is critical.
Once the best course of action has been determined, the procedure will be outlined for you, including any risks or potential issues that may come up. This is the time to ask any questions you might have, no matter how trivial they may seem.
