iLASIK™ (Laser Eye Surgery) – old

What is iLASIK™ Laser Eye Surgery?
iLASIK™ stands for ‘individual Femto-LASIK’, the most advanced LASIK procedure available today. This Wavefront-GUIDED All-Laser LASIK procedure allows customization of all the LASIK steps and leads to optimal results.

iLASIK™ is the only vision correction surgery approved for its safety by the US Dept. of Defense and NASA. The iLASIK™ procedure has become the safest and most popular laser procedure in North America.

The iLASIK™ Procedure

STEP 1 STEP 1
Anaesthetic drops are applied to the eye. A 3-D Wavescan Map of your eye is created for iris registration to detect deformities in the eye.
STEP 2 STEP 2
Now we use the IntraLase Femtosecond laser (the only one in Atlantic Canada) to create your corneal flap. A thin, hinged flap is created by tiny pulses of laser light that pass harmlessly through the outer layer of your cornea. Then the flap is lifted temporarily from the eye’s surface.
STEP 3 STEP 3
Finally, the Visx S4IR excimer laser reshapes the cornea for vision correction. The procedure is complete when the protective blade-free flap is securely repositioned on its beveled edge after the surgeon has gently replaced the flap to its original position. The entire procedure only takes 10-15 minutes and leave your eyes healing naturally and securely. .

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I consider the iLASIK™ Procedure?
When considering FDA-approved laser vision correction, only the iLASIK® Procedure offers the world’s most-advanced, custom-vision-correcting technologies in one safe and proven all-laser procedure.
What vision problems can the iLASIK™ Procedure correct?
Only the vision-correcting lasers behind the iLASIK® Procedure have earned FDA-approval to correct the broadest range of vision imperfections, including mild to severe nearsightedness, farsightedness and all types of astigmatism.
Am I a candidate for the iLASIK® Procedure?
The majority of people are good candidates for the iLASIK® Procedure. If you are at least 21 years old, in good general health with no existing eye disease, and your vision prescription has been stable for at least one year, you are probably a candidate for the iLASIK® Procedure. When considering FDA-approved laser vision correction, only the iLASIK® Procedure offers the world’s most-advanced and innovative vision procedure available today.
What kind of vision can I expect with the iLASIK® Procedure?
Only the iLASIK® Procedure delivers the truly customized treatment that more doctors rely on to take their patients to 20/20 and beyond, so they can better enjoy their favorite activities such as water sports, diving, snowboarding, mountain biking, playing softball, and more. The vast majority of iLASIK® patients improve to 20/20 vision or better after surgery. 20/20 vision means that you see at 20 feet what a person without any vision problems would see at the same distance. (For reference, you need to be at least 20/40 to drive, while fighter pilots are often measured at 20/15.)
How safe is the iLASIK® Procedure?
The iLASIK® Procedure is safe and proven, combining the world’s most advanced, custom-vision-correcting technologies into one integrated all-laser procedure. In fact, more vision corrections are performed worldwide with iLASIK® Technology than with any other laser procedure. And, iLASIK® represents the most widely-researched vision correction procedure available today.
Does it hurt? How long does it take?
The iLASIK® Procedure is a quick, virtually painless procedure. It takes just about 10 minutes per eye, with both eyes typically treated at the same visit. You are awake the entire time. Your eyes are numbed with drops, and at most, you might feel a little bit of pressure. There is usually no discomfort following the procedure.
What is the real difference between iLASIK® and other procedures?
Only the vision-correcting lasers behind the iLASIK® Procedure have earned FDA approval to correct the broadest range of vision imperfections. Other forms of laser vision correction just don’t have the clinical results and advanced technology that comprise the iLASIK® Procedure.

In addition, no other vision procedure offers the individualized treatment of iLASIK®, truly customizing your vision correction based on your precise, individual refractive signature. Like a fingerprint, a refractive signature is unique to each of your eyes. Using 3D mapping, the iLASIK® Technology captures that refractive signature and uses it to create the exact specification needed to correct your vision.

How long will the effects of the iLASIK Procedure last?
For a vast majority results of the iLASIK Procedure are permanent. However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t need glasses at some point in the future; due to aging eyes, everyone eventually needs reading glasses for small print sometime in their 40s or 50s.

Advantages of iLASIK® over other types of LASIK

iLASIK™ is a new brand of LASIK eye surgery that has been pioneered and perfected by AMO/VISX and Intralase™ technology. Despite the fact that Standard Blade LASIK has helped millions of people see without the dependence on glasses or contact lenses, LASIK was not a perfect procedure . Although most people that had Standard Microkeratome blade LASIK had no problems whatsoever, ophthalmologists and engineers were eager to perfect this vision correction procedure trying to develop a safer and more predictable solution. iLASIK™ now provides this solution.

By combining Wavefront-GUIDED technology with VISX™ Star S4 active tracking excimer laser capability as is used at Bense Vision, plus a blade-free femtosecond laser for an totally blade-free LASIK, we can now achieve a safer more precise result. The technology used in the iLASIK™ procedure has been thoroughly tested and scrutinized by doctors who overwhelmingly claim the safety and precision advantages. It is clear now that iLASIK™ truly represents a technological combination unmatched in vision correction.

If you combine this technology with a surgeon like Dr. Mike Bense, you will significantly reduce the amount of risk involved with this surgery. If you want a vision correction procedure that is totally customized just for your own eyes, Wavefront-GUIDED iLASIK™ is the procedure to select. Remember it’s your eyes, your life, and ultimately your decision.
