Lens Options

Monofocal– government provided IOL

  • The province’s medical care provides Medical Care Plan (MCP) beneficiaries a monofocal IOL - ‘the traditional lens’ option, at no cost.
  • A monofocal IOL will provide single focus and is usually planned to correct distance vision.
  • No cost is charged to the patient for an insured lens such as a monofocal IOL.
  • It is likely you will still need glasses after your cataract procedure with a monofocal IOL.

Specialty Lens - Vivity®

With the Vivity® IOL, you can expect a continuous range of vision for distant and intermediate tasks, while also providing you with functional near vision. Functional near vision reduces your need for glasses when performing up-close tasks like using your Smartphone or reading a menu in adequate light, compared to a basic monofocal IOL which doesn’t address presbyopia.
